MFAA welcomes appointment of new Board Director

The Mortgage & Finance Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine McDermott as a Director to the MFAA Board, effective 1 June 2023.

Katherine brings a wealth of executive digital, identity, cyber, and data expertise to the MFAA Board.

Katherine is the Chief Product and Digital Officer at Service NSW, where she oversees individual and business services for the NSW Government, including digitisation of the globally recognised NSW Digital Driver Licence. Among her previous roles, she was Chief Executive Officer of the Mine Subsidence Board, where she led transformational legislative reforms, and Services and Transformation Manager at Rio Tinto.

Katherine was recognised as one of the Top 50 CIOs in Australia in 2022, and as one of the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Women of Influence in 2013. She is also committed to continuous learning and is currently undertaking a Post Graduate Certificate: Chief Digital and Innovation Officer through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Katherine is a Non-Executive Director of Lymphoma Australia and was previously a Non-Executive Director of the National Foundation for Australian Women

MFAA Board Chair, Kerri Buurman, welcomed Ms McDermott to the MFAA Board.

“Katherine’s appointment ensures that the MFAA Board, and our members, will have exceptional guidance in understanding and navigating the everchanging digital landscape,” she commented.

“One of the Association’s strategic goals is to support innovative solutions and services for our members. This will become increasingly important for our members as we look to the future, and Katherine’s experience and expertise in technology and digital transformation will be of immense benefit to our work.

“I look forward to working with Katherine, she will be a great asset to the MFAA Board,” Ms Buurman continued.

Ms McDermott said she is thrilled to be part of the MFAA Board.

“Joining the MFAA Board, my aim is to empower members by enhancing their access to technology and innovation resources. Additionally, I am dedicated to helping them safeguard their businesses against emerging cyber threats,” she said.
