Membership Requirements

PI Insurance: Check with your aggregator or an insurance provider.

Credit Report: Contact Equifax or Illion.

Yes, through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

Membership Applications

Finance Broker: Less than two years’ experience and mentoring required.

Accredited Finance Broker: Two+ years of active loan writing experience and a Diploma.

Yes, but Finance Broker and Accredited Finance Broker members must complete a Diploma within one year.

Yes, it’s mandatory for all new members to understand compliance and legislation.

Once a membership application review has commenced, the application fee is not refundable. Membership fees are not refundable once the membership has been approved and commenced.

 

Yes. We have a reciprocal membership arrangement with current financial members of CAFBA. A 50% discount applies to the annual MFAA Individual Finance Broker or Business Broking membership fee. The MFAA membership discount will only apply to the name shown on the CAFBA certificate.

Mentoring

Brokers with less than two years of experience must engage a mentor for about two years.

Yes, ensure your current mentor completes the Mentee Progress form before transitioning.

Submit an application form with supporting documentation based on the MFAA Mentoring Standards.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development)

Attend webinars, events, or mentoring. Visit the CPD requirements page for details.

At renewal, tick the attestation box confirming you’ve completed 30 CPD hours. You can record activities in the MFAA member portal or keep your own records.

Yes, you must retain evidence such as certificates, receipts, emails, or calendar entries.

Evidence should show your name, activity date, CPD provider, activity description, and hours earned. Refer to ASIC’s RG 206 for a list of activities.

Members with loan writing status must complete 30 CPD hours per membership year.

Log in to the portal to add, view, or download your CPD records.

Yes, up to 12 hours annually.

Member Portal

Log in to the portal and go to “My Profile” > “Update My Profile.”

Access them under “My Profile” in the “Documents” or “Invoices” sections.

Select “Renew Membership” under the “Actions” dropdown or Quicklinks menu.

Compliance Refresher

A mandatory annual course for loan writing members to maintain knowledge of compliance regulations.

Log in to the portal, enrol during membership renewal, and complete the course in the Learning Hub.

Yes, certificates are available in the Learning Hub after successful completion.
