MFAA congratulates Labor Government on re-election

The Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia congratulates the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party on being re-elected for a second term following the 2025 Federal Election, held at a time where housing affordability and cost of living pressures are front of mind for Australians.

“The MFAA is pleased to have had constructive engagement with the Albanese Government over its first term and looks forward to further close and constructive engagement going forward, to progress key policies that benefit our members and their clients,” MFAA CEO Anja Pannek said.

A key focus for Labor during the election campaign has been housing supply and support for prospective homeowners, both sectors of the economy in which mortgage and finance brokers play a critical role.

“The Government must continue to focus on increasing housing supply and access to housing,” Ms Pannek said.

“With the majority of our members being small business owners, we also encourage the Government to continue to expand on support for small businesses. The re-elected government will need to deal with these issues as well as broader economic challenges including lifting productivity.

“We look forward to seeing election commitments being implemented in due course. For our members, the continuation of the Labor Government will provide certainty with respect to the Help to Buy shared equity scheme, and we will be working closely with the Government and Housing Australia to support this roll out.”

Ms Pannek said the association keenly awaits the confirmation of the new Minister for Financial Services, as well as the new Shadow Minister for Financial Services.

“We will advocate for further reform to improve home ownership access, strengthen competition in lending, and support small broking businesses. Our priorities also include payroll tax reform, digital adoption incentives, and fit for purpose regulation,” Ms Pannek said.

“We would also like to acknowledge the long service and contribution to Australia of Peter Dutton as the Leader of the Opposition and Luke Howarth as Shadow Financial Services Minister.”
