Home Guarantee Scheme extends its support for first home buyers

The Federal Government has announced a further 50,000 places are available within the Home Guarantee Scheme. These places are available from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 and are available as follows:

  • 35,000 places for the First Home Guarantee
  • 10,000 places for the Regional First Home Guarantee
  • 5,000 places for the Family Home Guarantee

Mortgage brokers play a crucial role in helping clients, especially first-time buyers, understand what government support is available and how to access it.

Applications for the First Home Guarantee can only be made with a participating lender and eligibility criteria must be met. Applicants  must:

  • be an Australian citizen(s) or permanent resident(s) at the time they enter the loan;
  • be at least 18 years of age;
  • intend to be owner-occupiers of the purchased property; and
  • apply as an individual or two joint applicants (a joint application can be a friend, sibling or other family member).

The Regional First Home Guarantee is available to home buyers who have lived in the regional area they are buying in, or an adjacent regional area, in the 12 months leading up to their application.

The Family Home Guarantee is available to eligible single parent or legal guardian of one or more dependent children.

Minimum deposits and housing price caps continue to apply.
