Diversity and Inclusion

Inclusive Community Hub

The Inclusive Community Hub was created as part of the Opportunities for Women initiative to provide valuable learning resources, research, videos, presentations, and tools to help build a more diverse and inclusive broking industry—one that truly reflects the communities it serves.

By fostering diversity and inclusion, we can create a stronger, more innovative industry that better supports brokers, customers, and businesses alike.

What is Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)?

Diversity

Diversity encompasses the range of human differences within any group, including—but not limited to—race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability, and religious or political beliefs.

Equity

Equity means ensuring fair treatment, access, and opportunity for all individuals while working to eliminate barriers that have historically disadvantaged certain groups.

Inclusion

Inclusion means creating an environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Why it matters

Business strategies. A more inclusive industry attracts talent from diverse backgrounds, broadens perspectives, and enhances decision-making, ultimately benefiting brokers and their clients.

Learning resources

Brokers facilitate 76% of all residential home loans, making the industry a trusted financial channel for people from diverse identities and backgrounds. Ensuring brokers come from a broad range of experiences and perspectives helps the industry:

  • Strengthen its ability to serve a diverse client base.
  • Attract and retain top talent.
  • Stay responsive to changing market needs.

The Inclusive Community Hub provides:

  • Research and reports
  • Webinars and presentations
  • Best-practice strategies for fostering inclusion
  • Practical tools for supporting a diverse workforce

Opportunities for Women

The Opportunities for Women program is designed to support the greater inclusion of women in the finance broking industry. Through tailored strategies, we aim to foster a more gender-balanced profession that benefits from diverse perspectives and talent.

Industry initiatives

Currently, women represent just over 26% of the mortgage and finance broking industry. To improve representation and support underrepresented groups, the MFAA and many of our industry partners have introduced dedicated diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

These initiatives focus on:

Increasing awareness and education around gender diversity.

Providing networking and mentoring opportunities for women in the industry.

Supporting brokers from diverse backgrounds to enter and thrive in the profession.

Prioritising your wellbeing

Supporting brokers, their teams, and their clients is about more than just business—it’s about wellbeing. Our mental health and wellbeing resources help you maintain balance, build resilience, and access support when you need it.
The MFAA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to lands, waters, and communities. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past and present.
