Member resources: Ethics and ethical decision-making in the mortgage and finance broking industry

Following on from the recent launch of the MFAA’s Foundation Course in Ethics, in last week’s webinar, the Ethics Centre’s Head of the Ethics Alliance and The Banking + Finance Oath, Cris Parker, and MFAA’s Head of Legal and Compliance, Naveen Ahluwalia, explored the importance of ethical decision-making in our industry.

We also continue to encourage our members to complete the MFAA’s Foundation Course in Ethics. The MFAA’s Foundation course in ethics provides educational strength to our members and help in modelling ethical professionalism within the finance broking industry.

The course will help you identify the difference between ethical and unethical practices and provide a practical decision-making framework to utilise when faced with ethical dilemmas.

The course takes around 1 hour to complete and is available free of charge until 31 December 2021. You will also earn 1 CPD hour and receive a certificate upon successful completion.

The Ethics Centre also has available to MFAA members Ethi-call. Ethi-call offers free, impartial guidance on tough decisions, professional or personal. The confidential service offers a one-hour phone call with trained counsellors to guide people through a series of questions and ethical lenses to grain clarity as they face a tough choice.

The Ethics Centre has also launched (The BFO), a unique voluntary initiative which helps individuals working in financial services demonstrate their commitment to ethical practices. This is done by supporting decision-making that aspires above the law and meets community expectations. This initiative is strengthening the ethical foundation of the industry by providing an opportunity for individuals to demonstrate their integrity. Members who are interested in taking The BFO can find more information from the Banking + Finance Oath website.
