The Chairman of the MFAA, Cynthia Grisbrook and award-winning mortgage broker Ian Robinson met with the Minister for Small Business and Federal Member for Riverina the Hon. Michael McCormack MP at the Australian Parliament House on Tuesday, this week.

The meeting was a success and provided an opportunity for the MFAA Chairman and Mr. Robinson to introduce the MFAA to the Minister and outline the key contribution made by its members to the mortgage broking sector.

Ian Robinson is a Director of Sewell Partners, an agribusiness debt advisory service that is a leading brokerage in Minister McCormack’s seat of Riverina in the south west of New South Wales.

Mr. Robinson noted that Minister McCormack was engaged and interested in hearing about the important role his business plays in providing financial services to many of the Minister’s constituents and agriculture-based businesses in his electorate.

Cynthia Grisbrook briefed Minister McCormack on some of the issues facing the mortgage and finance industry and the key role the MFAA plays in representing the interests of over 12,500 professional finance brokers who are its members.

Minister McCormack was appreciative of the discussion regarding the current view of mortgage broker remuneration being conducted by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission and the important contribution made by brokers in providing consumers with competitive financial choices. Ms. Grisbrook emphasised the need for ASIC, in its upcoming recommendations, to preserve the current mortgage broker system.

The meeting concluded with a commitment by Minister McCormack to meet again with the MFAA in his electorate office and to attend an MFAA function at a mutually convenient time.
