Last year, we released the MFAA Foundation course in Ethics to help mortgage and finance brokers identify the difference between ethical and unethical practices and provide a practical decision-making framework to utilise when faced with ethical dilemmas.
We are pleased to make members aware of some further resources, from The Ethics Centre, to support you in modelling ethical professionalism within the mortgage and finance broking industry.
Ethi-call helpline
Difficult decisions are a part of life, and they are a part of doing business. Sometimes it helps to talk through those dilemmas.
Ethi-call is a free and independent helpline providing expert and impartial guidance to help our members in thinking through ethical dilemmas within your businesses.
MFAA members can book a personalised call with one of Ethi-call’s dedicated counsellors at a time that suits you.
The Banking and Finance Oath
The Banking and Finance Oath is an Ethics Centre initiative aimed at establishing a set of professional principles voluntarily entered into by individuals through choice, the choice to be accountable to each other for upholding those principles. The Banking and Finance Oath promotes a culture of accountability, transparency and strong ethical principles within the banking and finance industry.
The Ethics Centre are asking the finance industry to reflect on the importance of integrity and professionalism, and the purpose and values one can personally bring to their role by taking the Oath in the month of August.
Go to the Banking and Finance Oath website to take the oath.
Life and Debt Podcast
The Life and Debt Podcast aims to start a national conversation about debt.
Created by The Ethics Centre’s Banking and Finance Oath Initiative, in this concise, four-part series, you will hear from financial advisors, journalists, finfluencers, psychologists and historians about the psychology, the history, the marketing and the future of debt.
It explores the opportunities there are in debt, how managing debt is a part of life and how we can use different perspectives to make better decisions about it.
You can listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. This is a podcast suitable for consumers and one that you may find valuable for your customers.
Resources from the MFAA
We continue to encourage our members to complete the MFAA’s Foundation Course in Ethics.
The course in ethics provides educational strength to our members and help in modelling ethical professionalism within the finance broking industry – in the interests of your customers, the community and ultimately the industry as a whole.
The course costs $19.95 (incl GST) and takes around one hour to complete. You will also earn 1 CPD hour and receive a certificate upon successful completion.
Members can also view a recording of a webinar on the importance of ethical decision making in mortgage and finance broking. The webinar features Ethics Centre’s Head of the Ethics Alliance, Cris Parker in conversation with the MFAA’s Head of Policy and Legal, Naveen Ahluwalia.
Log in to the MFAA Learning Hub to access the Foundation Course in Ethics and the webinar (you’ll need your unique MFAA ID number and your personal password). You’ll find them both under the Compliance learning domain.
