Deadline approaching for company directors to apply for Director ID

We remind our members that if you are a company director and you have not as yet applied for a Director Identification Number (Director ID), you must do so by 30 November 2022.

With changes in legislation which came into effect back on 1 November 2021, all company directors are required to obtain a Director ID. This will assist in the prevention of the use of false or fraudulent director identities and identify and eliminate director involvement in unlawful activity, such as illegal phoenix activity.

The Director ID is a unique identifier given to a director who has verified their identity with the Australian Business Registry Services and remains with the director forever.

There are criminal penalties of $13200 and civil penalties of $1,100,000 if a company director fails to apply for a Director ID by the due date.

For members that are intending on becoming a company director, you must apply for a Director ID before you are appointed.

For further information or apply for your Director ID, please visit Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS).
